The Onyx Box.

After completing Cold Coffee I started work on the Onyx Box almost immediately
afterwards, probably because the ideas were already developing whilst
writing Cold Coffee. I think I was about 19 or 20 years old when began
work on this and the music reflects that time for me. Self discovery and
I guess development of my self confidence, it was also a time where I
joined up with a band called The Yodeling Marshmallows. Being part of
the band influenced my approach to writing music, and helped me develop
a more lyrical approach to writing melodies, which I think is evident
throughout this project.

There are two versions of this track,
the origional demo idea and the final version, and this is the final
version of the track. It has a more obvious melody than the original
incarnation and a much lighter feel to it. I chose this version as the
final version because it allowed me to develop the melody to be carried
through into the second part of this track, which never made the tape
in full but a taste of it can be heard at the end of this track.
Carnival (2.9Mb 128kbps
44kHz)
This is a very busy track taken from The
Onyx Box, it doesn't have a prominent melody, but rather calibrates
a sequence of chords in an arpeggio frenzy. Looking back and listening
to this track really does sum up the feeling of having a good time,
the bass line introduced at about 1min 34 says it all really...happy
days.
